A Meeting Series For Gravity And Relativistic Physics

Since 1975, the Marcel Grossmann Meetings have been organized to provide opportunities for discussing recent advances in gravitation, general relativity, and relativistic field theories. Their scope emphasizes mathematical foundations, physical predictions, experimental tests, and related fields of astronomy and astrophysics.

The meetings were founded by Remo Ruffini and Abdus Salam as an international forum where mathematics, geometry, theory, observations, and experiment could meet around the common problem of understanding the fundamental laws of physics.

The dedication to Marcel Grossmann recalls the essential role of mathematics in Einstein's path to general relativity. Grossmann's knowledge of differential geometry helped connect Einstein's physical insight with the tensor calculus developed by Gregorio Ricci-Curbastro and Tullio Levi-Civita.

Proceedings And Participation

Proceedings of the Marcel Grossmann Meetings have recorded decades of work in general relativity, gravitational physics, relativistic astrophysics, cosmology, and related areas. The early volumes were published by North-Holland, followed by later volumes with World Scientific.

The series has traditionally invited interested scientists to take part in the continuing exchange of ideas across mathematical physics, astrophysics, and observational science.
