Work

For Einstein's equations to be a predictive theory, their initial-value problem must have well-defined solutions.

Choquet-Bruhat proved local existence and uniqueness for the Einstein equations and helped formulate the Cauchy problem in general relativity.

Her work established mathematical relativity as a rigorous field and underpins numerical relativity.
