Work
CMB photons and high-energy radiation from compact objects carry information about cosmic structure and plasma physics.
Sunyaev developed key theoretical tools, including the Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect with Yakov Zeldovich, for reading the imprint of galaxy clusters on the CMB.
These methods became essential for cluster cosmology, large-scale-structure studies, and X-ray observations of the universe.
